Flashback Summer / Fastforward Fall

Windows @ Solo Exhibition, Newbury Street Boston. July/August 2013

pre-show prep in the studio -Summer 2013

REWIND: Summer 2013

This past Summer seemed the polar opposite of endless or lazy. (ah yes...the exact  definition of what my favorite season should rightfully be.) On the contrary, my Summer flew by FAST, furious and fell far too short.
The long days of lounging carefree by the waters edge, feet planted warmly in the sand, watching the waves roll calmly by, were sadly few and far between. Although I consider that very scenario my all time favorite and most inspirational activity, instead...I happily (and longingly) stayed busy re-creating that nostalgic feeling in the studio for others to enjoy.
July and August proved 100% worth the sacrifice, with an immensely successful solo show in Boston and love floating in from all over the world. My heart was full of gratitude not only for the unbelievable support ...but for the lesson learned that you will always get back what you passionately put into that which you love.

September brought a bit of a whirlwind, keeping me busy maintaining my sails at every moment. Gratefully, October has landed me right where I should be. Back at the helm, full steam ahead, with a bounty of beauty before me. I'm anxious to discover what the crisp coming season will bring to my table. Change is in the air.

Spring Solo Show- Save the Date!

I'm both excited and a teensy bit disappointed that winter's hibernation has come to a close. A great artist I know recently said to me "winter in New England is the summer of the mind"... and I couldn't agree more. I've appreciated being cooped up in the studio with my 2 dogs, a roaring fire, and loads of extra time. However, this week it was a balmy 70 degrees here in Massachusetts, unofficially welcoming Spring (or so we pray!) which translates as "time to crawl out of creative seclusion!" (...damn.)

This past winter has been an exceedingly inspirational one and I'm happy to say it has been one of the most productive I've ever had.  I've completed over 12 new 36" paintings, plus dozens of smaller scale pieces, in the short two and a half months since January 1st. In other words... I'm a very happy, fully hibernated artist with WAY too much work on the walls! (Yes, it makes me crazy to hold onto such a large body of work but there is very good reason for this, I promise)
The majority of the paintings in the studio right now were created exclusively for my upcoming SOLO exhibition at one of Boston's best galleries LANOUE FINE ART.
I'm excited and honored to be one of the few artists selected for a solo exhibition in 2012 and even more flattered that it was only a few short months after being invited to be a part of the gallery just last summer.
Because of this rare opportunity, I've purposefully held back showing my new work so it can be exhibited for the first time at my opening this MAY.

I will, however, be previewing selected work online in the days ahead. So please be sure to check back for available paintings and show prep updates

a glimpse into the studio...

(kinda' feels like I'm in that famous Samuel Morse painting "Gallery of the Louvre"
...which makes me incredibly uncomfortable but strangely satisfied at the same time.

the beauty in silence

"It is only when we silent the blaring sounds of our daily existence that we can finally hear the whispers of truth that life reveals to us, as it stands knocking on the doorsteps of our hearts"  ~K.T. Jong

Studio - Summer 2011
I believe there are times, especially in the life of an artist, that you must take a few steps back to gain a new perspective of what lies ahead.

In no way do I mean stopping or moving backward but simply quieting the chaos of all the necessary distractions which have become expected of us. Websites, blogs, facebook, twitter etc (amongst a myriad of other technological requirements) insist we keep everyone up to date on how hard we work... what inspires us... when we succeed... when we fail...what we eat...when we manage to sleep...what we like...what we dislike... and of course, what we think of everyone else.  Supposedly, all while trying to maintain a "normal life"- relationships, family, friends, business, health, etc. which may not be quite as easy as it appears to some. (props to those that can!)

Needless to say, it's a hard balance and creativity tends to get lost in this endless whirlwind. More importantly, the truth of why you are an artist to begin with can become blurred.  Personally, I believe the only real requirement is to stay true to yourself. First priority is to create- genuinely and from the heart. The passion put into it will transcend in the work. IT will speak for itself. Your integrity and originality will show ...and it will pay off. (in many more ways than one)

This Summer, I made the conscious decision to be a bit more in tune with this need to quiet the constant buzz. I shut out the "blaring sounds" of the play-by-play present to listen a little closer to my future. (which has been loudly "knocking on the doorstep" ...and turns out, has a whole LOT to say!)

BUT...like Summer, my technological hiatus had to come to an end. So, on this first day of Autumn, I thought it only appropriate I start completely afresh with the incoming fall and I have plenty of good news to share. So here we go...

Whats in store this season?

* a brand new website and blog-
complete with high definition video footage of my most recent paintings and studio process

*preparations for upcoming shows and new galleries - including my biggest solo gallery exhibition to date (details to come)

and most importantly...
a fresh new perspective!
(and just in time for what's sure to be a very long New England winter)

'Above and Beyond' Expectations

"Above and Beyond" series- 6" x 6" each (shown: various 110 of 400) sold individually.
(most pieces above have been sold -email for current availability

In 2008, I began a series of small encaustic paintings incorporating vintage textiles, photographs and letters, various metals, lace, glass, paper, nails, bark, wire... and a countless array of found objects.
Each painting was individual and intuitively painted. My intention was to spark recollections of the often overlooked details in nature from an unconventional perspective, using texture, neglected everyday objects and forgotten mementos of the past.

I started off with a small grid of nine 6" x 6" paintings three years ago. This series has since exceeded my expectations. ('above and beyond' what I ever imagined ; )
At the close of 2010, I created the 400th piece in this series, most of which have sold so far.
In celebration of that, I'm featuring a few of my favorites from this series with a close up peek into the details not always noticeable at first glance.
~I hope you enjoy the view!
(I still have a variety of pieces for sale in this series. Please email me for current availability)
